FUTURE BOTANICA

A.I. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT / POLYMORF INTERNSHIP / 2024

A.I. research and development for Polymorf's Future Botanica—an AR phone simulation where users plant speculative, A.I.-generated flora in their environment. During my internship at Polymorf, I developed the complete generative pipeline for this project, exploring how A.I. technology can create entire ecosystems of imaginary plants that users interact with through augmented reality.

Future Botanica Overview
[ROLE & APPROACH]

As A.I. research intern for Polymorf's project, I was responsible for developing the complete generative pipeline—from prompt engineering to 3D conversion. The challenge was creating a consistent visual language for speculative plants that felt both alien and believable, maintaining coherence across hundreds of generated variations.

This required deep technical understanding of A.I. image generation: optimizing parameters, testing model configurations, and ensuring reliable output quality. The goal was not just creating interesting images, but developing a reproducible system that could generate endless variations while maintaining visual consistency for Polymorf's interactive experience.

Future Botanica Overview
[TECHNICAL WORKFLOW]

The process involved crafting precise prompts that could generate botanically plausible yet fantastical plant structures. After extensive experimentation, I identified optimal settings and model configurations that balanced creative variation with predictable results. Each generated plant needed to work as a 3D object in AR space—requiring careful consideration of form, silhouette, and translatable geometry.

Plant Generation 1
Plant Generation 2

A critical component was discovering and implementing software capable of converting 2D A.I. outputs into usable 3D models for AR integration. This pipeline—from text prompt to 3D asset—demonstrates comprehensive understanding of A.I. tools beyond simple generation, showcasing the technical expertise required to deliver production-ready results.

[OUTCOME]

The research established a robust system for generating consistent, high-quality speculative plant designs at scale for Polymorf's Future Botanica. Users can now plant A.I.-generated flora through their phone's AR interface, creating personal gardens of impossible botanics. The project demonstrates how thoughtful A.I. research translates creative vision into functional, interactive experiences.
